Catawba College Students Bring Home Research Awards Catawba College Biology, Chemistry, Environment and Sustainability, and Psychology students attended the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB) in-person from March 30 to April 2 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Several of their undergraduate research projects were recognized with awards.

Student Government Association Leaders Elected for Catawba College Student Government Association (SGA) Officers have been elected for Catawba College for the 2022-2023 year. Officers include: Miracle Etim-Andy as President, Emma Nantz as Vice President, Leon Heiermann as Treasurer, and Leigh Ann Matilus as Secretary.

Alum Molly Sue Harmon '18 was invited to compete at Baylor Law's Top Gun National Mock Trial Competition It is an invitation-only, highly competitive mock trial tournament where the top 16 single best advocates from across the nation go head-to-head for the honor of being designated as “Top Gun.” Molly Sue earned her invitation to this competition by winning the title of National Champion at the 2021 King of the Hill National Championship and by placing 9th out of 300 teams at the TYLA National Trial Competition in April 2022.

Alum Virginia Summey '04 just released her book, The Life of Elreta Melton Alexander: Activism within the Courts, and will be discussing Elreta's contributions to the civil war, while being the first African American woman graduate of the Columbia Law School. Catawba College's Drone Program Takes Off Despite headwinds from the global COVID-19 pandemic, Catawba College’s drone program began in 2020. Now, two years later, the program has taken off. These three Catawba students are pushing the boundary of what can be done with small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Bird Walk Saturday, May 14 7:30-10:30 a.m. Fred Stanback Jr. Ecological Preserve This bird walk is taking place on The Cornell Lab’s Global Big Day. Dr. Joe Poston recommends participants install eBird and Merlin apps on their mobile phones before arriving, but it’s not required. Both apps are free from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
