Join us in Welcoming New Faculty to the Catawba family!

Dr. Janelle Blazek will be joining the Catawba family as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. Dr. Janelle Blazek received her B.A. in Psychology Magna Cum Laude with minors in anthropology/sociology and theatre arts from Kalamazoo College, a small liberal arts college not unlike Catawba. She then earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Dr. Blazek's research focuses on intersectional perspectives of disordered eating in adolescence with a specific focus on the social identities of gender and ethnicity-race. She plans to continue this research by collaborating with faculty from all over and through working with Catawba students. Dr. Blazek enjoys teaching a variety of classes including Human Development, Psychology of Exceptionalities, and a seminar on Adolescent Development. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys baking, gardening, paddle-boarding, and hanging out with her pets.

Dr. Ann Marie Martin is excited to be joining Catawba College's faculty as a Visiting Assistant Professor of History! Previously, she served as an Instructor in the Department of History at the University of Arkansas, where she also received her Ph.D.
Dr. Martin is a social historian, and her research focuses on death and burial in the US South during the Early Republic and antebellum periods. Even though this topic has occasionally been referred to as "creepy," death and burial provide interesting ways to better understand society, showcase changes in issues like religion and medicine, and offer insight into the lives of those less present in the historical record.
Along with her Ph.D., as an undergraduate at Clemson University, Dr. Martin double majored in History and Secondary Education. She also holds a Masters of Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, and a Masters of Arts in History from Sam Houston State University. As a South Carolinian, she's very happy to be back in the Carolinas!
