Our Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science prepares you to take a practical and theoretical approach to improving physical performance, treating and preventing physical ailments, and improving the overall health of others. Gain them both with Catawba’s Master’s Degree in Exercise and Sport Science. We’ve designed the Exercise and Sport Science program to include advanced level courses in kinesiology, physics, biology, and chemistry, and have added components of health behavior, nutrition, and physiologic performance studies to the classroom.
Experiences outside the classroom get hands-on, adding to the program’s truly holistic approach to learning. You’ll be performing health appraisals, assessing wellness-related behaviors, such as physical activity, nutrition, and stress, and be prescribing activity programs to promote health and wellness to your clients. You’ll also become an educator, informing your clients of the use of exercise and movement as treatment to prevent and recover from an injury, adapt to a disability, or manage a disease.

Study Abroad in Exercise and Sport Science
Catawba College’s Sport & Health Sciences Department travels abroad to Italy and the Netherlands every two years to study and observe the European ways of sports medicine, sports management, and exercise science. Student-led research presentations are conducted jointly by Catawba students and international students from both countries.
Sport & Health Sciences Department students have also recently traveled to Peru on a medical mission trip, gaining hands-on experience in intake and patient history, measuring vitals, physician shadowing, and pharmacy operation. Future medical mission trips to Latin and South American countries will continue to be coordinated by the Sport & Health Sciences Department.
